2004 Amory, MS Hobo Gathering
Thursday,
April 15, 2004 included a bus trip to the Beverly Healthcare Center just south
of downtown. Sherry Clark is one of the caring Nursing Assistants at this
facility. The
Hobo musicians provided entertainment to the residents with song and dance.
A hot dog picnic lunch was served to residents and hoboes alike. It seemed
that the Hoboes enjoyed the trip as much as the residents enjoyed the visitors.
Lady Marie held a driveway sale at Larry's with bargains galore. I
found a nice pair of jeans for $4 and I picked up a flashlight for my daughter
Rebecca. I was assembling gear in preparation for Rebecca's
"First Time Out" later in the week with Train Doc.
Someone asked if anyone heard from Tanner City Kid and D-rail. It turns
out that inaccurate train advice put them on the "scenic route", and
they ended up visiting The Arch in St. Louis! After the scenic Mid-West
Tour, they did arrive safely on Wednesday night in Amory.
The Church located within four blocks of Frisco Park hosted a community
lunch for the homeless of the area and the Hoboes.
That
wonderful Hobo Joint known as the Amory Cafe hosted the Hoboes for supper.
Diner Debbie does a
good job keeping the Cafe going and Old Man Moses, well,
some say he helps out.
