Left home at age 17 so that he could live the lifestyle he
desired. For many
years, that life included booze, coke, quaaludes and
heroin. Snorted coke
with John Belushi. It was the "Pesetas
pura Chiva" that landed him in jail in
Abilene, TX on September 9,
1999. He was released in June-2000. Preston
had a storied music
career playing with The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Room
Full of Blues, The Blues
Brothers, The Alley Cats, Nick Curran, Damien Llane,
Big Joe Turner, Bonnie
Raitt, Vaughn Brothers, Duke Robillard, Lou Ann Barton,
Albert Collins, Etta
James, Professor Longhair, Albert King, and many others.
In his later
years, I met him several times performing in St Louis, MO and he
appeared to be
OK, and his musical ability was very good and I believe he was
clean and
sober. However the many years of drug abuse took its toll and Preston fell
ill in April-2014 and was taken to a St Louis emergency room near death,
receiving
blood transfusions and lifesaving care. He recovered and
returned home.
Alas, "Guero Loco" lived only two more years.
